Easter Bunny Chow
This Easter bunny chow is the perfect quick and easy snack mix to make for your friends and family! Inspired by classic puppy chow, this salty sweet Easter version contains rice square cereal, popcorn, and pretzels which are all drenched in a mixture of melted white chocolate and SunButter. Of course, it’s all coated in powdered sugar. Toss in some bunny grahams and chocolate covered sunflower seeds to make this mix extra festive!

Whenever there’s a sweet snack mix at the party, you’ll always find a crowd of people standing around it just constantly grabbing bits and pieces. At least this is the case with my family, and the mix is always gone before you know it!
So for Easter, I thought I’d pay an ode to this crowd favorite by making a festive holiday mix! Inspired by puppy chow, this Easter bunny chow is made just a tiny bit different but it’s equally as addicting.
Easter Puppy Chow Mix
This snack mix is so addicting because it’s the perfect blend of sweet and salty.
The blend is made up of rice square cereal which is very traditional to classic puppy chow. But to spice things up a bit, some popcorn and pretzels are tossed in as well.
These two salty additions help level out the flavors in this mix which will leave you going back for more.
Easter Bunny Chow Coating
Since puppy chow is made with peanut butter, it only felt right to make bunny chow with sunflower seed butter. My absolute favorite is Creamy SunButter because it is so rich and smooth and adds a delicious flavor to this mix! It also makes this snack mix nut-free so when puppy chow isn’t an option, make this bunny chow instead.
Instead of chocolate, the Creamy SunButter is melted down with white chocolate and a bit of salted butter. This mixture is well balanced so it’s not overly sweet which further enhances the salty/sweet flavors we have going on in the mix itself.
The mix is coated in this luxurious SunButter and white chocolate mixture before getting tossed in a layer of powdered sugar.
I definitely suggest making this mix in a big bowl with a lid! Just toss in the sugar, shake it up, and our bunny chow is ready.
Customize It!
This mix uses a blend of rice square cereal, popcorn, and pretzels, but feel free to remix this blend to whatever you like!
As long as you end up with a full 10 cups of dry mix, it will work. Here are some mix-ins that I think could work great in this recipe:
- Golden Grahams
- Cheerios
- Coconut
- Puffed Corn
- Salted Sunflower Seeds
As far as the extra toss-ins after the mix is coated, I love how candy coated sunflower seeds look and taste here. If you can’t get your hands on some, you can also use Easter-colored candy coated chocolates.
Easter Puppy Chow FAQs
Yes! Just substitute gluten free pretzels and omit the bunny grahams. Also double check to make sure all other ingredients are completely gluten free.
Yes! Use plant-based butter, dairy free white chocolate, and any dairy free candy coated chocolates. Everything else is already naturally dairy free.
Yes, feel free to use any chocolate you like! But I do think white chocolate works best here.
After it’s shaken and coated, I like to arrange the chow out on a large baking tray lined with parchment paper. Sprinkle the bunny grahams and sunflower seeds over top and it will look so inviting!
Once the mix has cooled, store in a large ziplock bag at room temperature. It will keep for about 5 days. Keep in mind the popcorn will turn a little stale after a day or two, but I found it didn’t affect the overall taste and experience of eating the chow.

In my country I don’t have sunbutter can u recommend anything else ?
So since I’ve started following you, I’ve tried sunbutter and learned I have a severe sunflower seed allergy
I was wondering what you’d substitute whenever you use sunbutter? Just any type of nut butter??
Thanks so much, love everything you do!
