Cherry Coke Margarita
This delicious coca cola margarita is inspired by both an Italian margarita and a Batanga. Fresh cherries are mashed with lime juice and shaken with amaretto and tequila. Top with your cola of choice and enjoy!

What is a Batanga cocktail?
This cherry coke margarita was directly inspired by my sweet cherry Italian margarita and a Batanga. An Italian margarita is made using amaretto instead of orange liqueur which gives a sweeter, richer flavor.
But the Batanga half of this cocktail is where the coca cola comes in.
A Batanga is made with tequila, lime, and Mexican coca cola. It’s one of my go-to drinks, although I have to admit I prefer Coke Zero over full sugar coke.
So for this recipe, we’re combining the simplicity of a Batanga with the rich flavors of an Italian margarita. The result is a surprisingly refreshing drink that’s perfect for any season.
Cola Margarita Ingredients
- Cherries – Make sure you use sweet dark cherries. These can either be fresh or frozen and thawed. I actually prefer frozen here as they’re guaranteed to be sweet and are already tender for easy mashing.
- Lime Juice – Always use fresh lime juice when making a cocktail! Bottled can taste a little bit like cleaner. Plus, it’s super easy to just squeeze half a lime in to the drink.
- Amaretto – I prefer Disaronno because it has a clean and smooth consistency. Some other amarettos can taste too rich and syrupy for my taste.
- Tequila – This drink would work great with either reposando or blanco tequila, but my personal preference is blanco. Try to go for a tequila thats 100% agave without any additives. My favorites are Madre, Teremana, or Espolon.
- Cola – Use whatever you like the taste of! My favorite is Coke Zero, but if you use regular Coke just know it will make the drink a bit sweeter. Or feel free to experiment with different sodas. Dr Pepper or even Sprite would be delicious!

Description
This cherry coke margarita is surprisingly refreshing and so incredibly delicious. Fresh cherries are mashed with lime juice and shaken with amaretto and tequila. Top with your favorite cola and enjoy!
Ingredients
Cherry Coke Margarita
- 4 dark cherries (fresh or frozen and thawed)
- 1/2 oz lime juice
- 1/2 oz amaretto
- 1 1/2 oz blanco tequila
- Chilled cola of choice (I prefer Coke Zero)
Instructions
Cherry Coke Margarita
- Add the cherries and lime juice to a shaker and muddle into a pulp.
- Then add the amaretto, tequila, and ice and shake for 30 seconds.
- Strain into a glass of ice and top with your favorite chilled cola.
- Stir and enjoy!
Notes
MOCKTAIL – Substitute the amaretto with Torani amaretto syrup and the tequila with a zero proof alternative (or leave out the tequila altogether). I suggest using Diet Coke or Coke Zero as the syrup will add enough sweetness!
