No Bake Peanut Butter Pie
While simple in concept, this no bake peanut butter pie is anything but basic. The filling contains SO much creamy peanut butter flavor and has the silkiest consistency. It’s somehow rich and creamy and light and airy at the same time. I’ve included a couple secret ingredients as well as some essential baking tips to create this life-changing peanut butter pie!
What makes this peanut butter pie recipe so good?
This pie isn’t the flashiest, but wow does it pack a punch in both flavor and texture. If I could reach through the screen and hand you a slice just to prove it, I would! So to prepare you for the BEST results, here’s what make this pie so incredible:
- Crust – I polled my readers on Instagram to see which crust was preferred – Oreo or Nutter Butter. The results were split almost exactly down the middle so I provided the option for both! I personally love the Nutter Butter crust, but it tastes delicious both ways.
- Peanut Butter – No bake peanut butter pie is a classic recipe, so for my version I knew I wanted to add tons of peanut butter! It definitely contains more than the usual amount and it pays off. Make sure to use CREAMY traditional peanut butter like Jif or Skippy. Don’t use natural here.
- Homemade Whipped Cream – Instead of Cool Whip, we’re making homemade whipped cream because it’s simple, easy, and you don’t have to clean the bowl after making it. The key here is to not over whip! We want soft peaks as shown in the photo below. This smooth whipped cream will create the silkiest peanut butter filling.
- Sweetened Condensed Milk – Just a little bit goes a long way here. It prevents the filling from chilling TOO thick while also adding a different layer of sweetness. Don’t skip this ingredient!
- Honey Roasted Peanuts – We’re adding a good layer of peanuts to the topping to really enhance that flavor. Honey roasted is the absolute best, but use whichever roasted peanut you like!
- Chilling – This pie only needs 2 hours minimum to set! Those 2 hours will leave you with a perfectly soft filling. Chill overnight for a sturdier consistency.
Whipped Peanut Butter Pie Baking Tips
For the absolute best results, here’s what you need to know:
- Cream Cheese – Make sure this is room temperature before starting! If you forget, it’s ok – unwrap it and heat in the microwave for 30-60 seconds until softened. That’s safe to do for a no bake recipe like this. Also use the good full fat stuff for the best flavor!
- Powdered Sugar – Spoon the powdered sugar into your measuring cup and level it off with a flat edge. Don’t scoop directly into the bag or container as this will pack it down into the cup.
- Whipped Cream – Like noted before, don’t over whip here. However, if you like a more stable whipped cream for the topping, you can fold in half of the whipped cream and then hand whip the rest with a whisk to help thicken it a bit more. It’s just important that the whipped cream is soft for the filling!
- Folding – When folding the whipped cream into the peanut butter filling, I like to say it will look wrong until it looks right. It truly looks very wrong up until the very last few folds. So trust the process and you will get to that silky smooth consistency.
No Bake Peanut Butter Pie FAQs
Use gluten free Oreos for the crust! They work just the same as regular Oreos.
Using a rubber spatula, run it around the bowl and swoop up and through the middle of the filling. You’re essentially “folding” the filling on top of itself to combine the whipped cream and peanut butter without deflating the whipped cream.
You can make it a couple days in advance for optimal freshness. I recommend storing it in a container to help maintain that freshness.
Sure! Just use the crust recipe from my key lime cookie pie.
Keep the pie in a container in the refrigerator, although it’s ok to store uncovered for a day.
