Dirty Godmother

The Dirty Godmother combines the smooth almond flavor of amaretto with the fizzy, caramel-like taste of cola for a cocktail that’s surprisingly simple and incredibly easy to drink. It’s sweet, bubbly, and tastes like a grown-up Dr Pepper.

What is a Godmother cocktail?

A Godmother is simply vodka and amaretto on ice. Pulling inspiration from my popular Italian Cherry Coke Margarita which combines amaretto and cola, creating a cocktail with Dr Pepper felt like the natural (and correct) route.

So think of this drink as a cross between a Dirty Dr Pepper (Dr Pepper, coconut cream, and lime) with a Godmother (vodka and amaretto). The flavors blend so well together and it’s bound to be your new favorite cocktail!

Ingredient Notes

There’s not much to this drink, but here are a few key ingredients that really make this cocktail:

  1. Amaretto – I prefer Disaronno due to its smooth flavor. I find lesser amarettos taste syrupy, which this one doesn’t!
  2. Vodka – Use your favorite!
  3. Cream of Coconut – This is in a squeeze jar usually found in the alcohol section. It’s thick, sticky, and blends seamlessly into your cocktails. Don’t use canned coconut cream as it tends to split and curdle inside the drink.
  4. Dr Pepper – Use regular or zero sugar! Whichever you use, just make sure it’s chilled.

Dirty Godmother FAQs:

Will this work with tequila instead?

Sure! Replace the vodka with blanco tequila. My cherry coke Italian margarita is proof that tequila and amaretto work great together.

How can I make this a mocktail?

You can omit the vodka and replace the amaretto with a pump of almond syrup!

Can I use cream instead of cream of coconut?

If anything, you can swap the cream of coconut with sweetened condensed milk. You could also use coconut flavored coffee creamer which is traditional to a Dirty Dr Pepper.

Does this cocktail contain dairy?

No! None of the ingredients contain dairy, even though it’s a creamy cocktail.
