MY NEW COOKBOOK ‘SIMPLE SUGAR’ IS HERE!

cookies,

Hey! I’m Jenna

the baker and photographer behind Butternut Bakery.

I started as a way to share my passion for baking, the kind that involved flour, butter, and sugar. You know, the good stuff. But a year into my blog, I developed (and have since healed) digestive issues and discovered I have a sensitivity to both gluten and dairy.

That’s why I’m so passionate about creating desserts for all diets. Here you’ll find a mix of traditional and modified recipes to satisfy every sweet tooth.

More Than A Recipe

the story behind Butternut Bakery

I started this blog in 2018 as a creative outlet while working my full-time desk job. Baking had always been my favorite way to unwind, and sharing recipes online gave me a place to satisfy the creative itch that my day job couldn’t. What began as a hobby quickly grew into something much bigger than I ever imagined. Today, Butternut Bakery reaches millions of home bakers around the world, but its heart remains the same: creating desserts that feel special without being complicated.

Baking on Butternut Street

My love for baking started in the kitchen of my childhood home on Butternut Street. Between annual gingerbread cookie traditions with my sister, strawberry birthday cakes for my dad, and rhubarb crisp made with rhubarb from the neighbor’s garden, this is where my passion for baking first took root.

Frequently Asked Questions

When did you start Butternut Bakery?

I started Butternut Bakery in 2018 as a creative outlet while working my full-time desk job. What began as a hobby quickly grew into the site it is today.

How did you learn to bake?

I’m a self-taught baker. Years of recipe testing, reading, and practice in my own kitchen taught me what works and why.

Do you take your own photos?

Yes, all of the food photography you see here is done by me. But unlike baking, I haven’t always had a love for photography. It wasn’t until I started the blog that I became obsessed with the photography process, and it’s something I’m equally passionate about as I am with baking.

What camera do you use?

I use a Canon camera and choose the lens based on the recipe, the light, and the type of shot I’m creating.

Do you work with brands?

Yes. I work with brands that are a natural fit for Butternut Bakery and helpful to the bakers who follow along.
