Description

This passion fruit margarita is sweet and spicy! The passion fruit provides a tropical flavor, while the jalapeño adds a dash of spice. Together, these flavors create the perfect passion fruit margarita!

Ingredients

Spicy Passion Fruit Margarita

  • 2 jalapeño slices (about ” thick)
  • 3/4 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 oz agave nectar
  • 1 1/2 oz blanco tequila or mezcal
  • 1/2 oz orange liqueur
  • 2 oz passion fruit puree *SEE NOTES
  • Tajin, for the rim

Instructions

Spicy Passion Fruit Margarita

  1. To a shaker, add the jalapeño slices (with as few or as many seeds so you prefer), lime juice, and agave. Use a muddler or the bottom of a wooden spoon to mash the jalapeño to release more flavor.
  2. Now add the remaining ingredients along with ice and shake for about 30 seconds.
  3. Use a discarded lime wedge to line the rim of a cocktail glass. Then place the glass upside down in some Tajin to coat the rim. Fill with ice.
  4. Strain the cocktail into the glass and garnish to your liking. Enjoy!

Notes

*PASSION FRUIT PUREE – While fresh passion fruit can be used, it takes at last 4 to produce 2 oz of puree. So instead, I used frozen passion fruit. Once thawed it turns liquid. I suggest running it through a food processor to smooth out any pulp, or simply run through a fine mesh strainer to remove the pulp. If you can’t get your hands on frozen passion fruit or bottled passion fruit puree, mango juice is a great option as it’s much more accessible but yields a similar flavor. Alternatively, I do not suggest using passion fruit juice as this is a clear liquid that will not produce the same look.

MOCKTAIL – Replace the tequila with a zero proof option or a citrus seltzer. Then replace the orange liqueur with fresh squeezed orange juice.
